A Sunday School Class Worth Attending
We live in a world of choices. Advertisers constantly bombard us with variety in every aspect of our lives. But what really motivates us in our purchasing? Are we driven by those catchy jingles, images flashed on the TV or computer screens, pictures in the ads we read, or is it something else? I think the common response might be we tend to base our purchases on value. We look for the best value we can get for our money.
When it come to Sunday School people want value when they come. Among questions they ask we might hear: Will I receive greater value in this church or the one down the street?
Surveys continue to show that people will attend church if they are invited but what will they find if they come? With all the choices that vie for peoples attention, what can you offer in the Sunday School class that will make it a class worth attending?
Here are five things that can enhance your youth and adult classes, hopefully making them places where people will want to come:
- Offer a Spiritual Connection - People are looking for faith in something. They continue
searching for that faith connection and we as Christians can offer the Connection that brings
eternal hope.
- Offer a Social Connection - Society is becoming more distant and disconnected yet people are
increasingly becoming lonelier. They want to interact with others who care for them. Your SS
classes are ready made small group Bible studies and offer the personal connection people are
looking for today.
- Stimulate Learning - People are looking for intellectual challenges and they're good for our
mental health. Our Bible study time should challenge people to thing and reflect, to grow and
discover. God's Word is filled with all kinds of deep truths for personal spiritual development.
- Offer Service Opportunities - Most adults find value in being able to "give back" as well as
receive. Organize opportunities for your class to help others outside the church family.
- Provide Supervision - Direction for life not only comes through study but also through social
interaction and ministry opportunities. Direction is also found in mentoring or friendships with
other Christians who have discovered the value of walking by faith.
What does your class offer to people who come for the first time? What about for the 20th time? Let's look to offer them Sunday School classes of value! |
